Inmarsat has announced that it's advanced Global Xpress (GX) Aviation in-flight connectivity service has received EASA certification for the A320 aircraft family.

The certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency keeps the GX Aviation on track linefit and retrofit certification on every major Airbus and Boeing airframe.

The certificate authorises the installation of GX Aviation on Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft.

Inmarsat’s partner Lufthansa Technik obtained the STC after its design team developed an installation process that includes required electrical modifications inside and outside the aircraft fuselage, which can be completed within only four days or during regular maintenance schedules.

GX Aviation is the first in-flight broadband solution that offers global coverage through a single operator, Lufthansa’s European passengers can browse the internet, watch videos and connect to the company’s Virtual Private Network (VPN).

“We have developed GX Aviation over the past five years as the only end-to-end solution in which every component, from the satellites, ground network and terminals to the cabin networks, internet features and support, has been engineered with mobility in mind to provide a high quality experience for airline passengers,” said Leo Mondale, president, Inmarsat Aviation.
